About the Piano Lady…

Janice Lee Kirstein went to the University of Texas at Austin to study Electrical Engineering on a full academic scholarship.  Meanwhile, she also loved piano so much that she minored in music to continue her piano education throughout college.  During her last year at UT, she began teaching piano and has been teaching ever since.  Janice earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1987, moved to San Diego, and began working at Hughes Aircraft Corporation.  She was teaching over 20 students a week when she left HAC to have her daughter Jacquelyn, born in 1994. She now has another girl Brooke, born in 2003.  Janice continues to teach up to 40 students a week.  During her daughters' attendances at Dingeman Elementary School, she also accompanied the school choir practice every week and at their concerts and played the synthesizer for the school’s annual musical productions.  She also taught the Art Corps lessons in every one of her daughters' grades. Beginning in 2009, Janice began to pursue another passion, playing competitive tennis.  She became San Diego City Champion in Ladies 4.0 Singles in LeagueTennis.com in 2013, and has reached the Ladies Championship Final on the SRSRC Singles Ladder each of the last 5 years.  In Doubles, her A Tennis Team at Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club earned a first place local standing in 2012 and 2016.   Her enthusiasm for tennis has earned her a position on the SRSRC Tennis Committee, is the Administrator of the Ladies Singles Ladder, and is co-Editor of the quarterly Tennis Newsletter.  Additionally, Janice continues to be an active member and volunteer to the parent resource group The Parent Connection since both her daughters' births.  Other activities that Janice enjoys include playing the violin, scrapbooking and other paper crafts,  and the design of her own Jewelry by Janice collection.
